Q: How many teams will CVC have at each age ?
A: We really won't know until we get a feel for numbers at open gyms and tryout registrations. If you're interested stop by an open gym or drop us an email at email@example.com.
Q: Is CVC limited to families within Centennial School District?
A: No! CVC is not a "closed" club and welcomes players from all across the north metro area.
Q: How do I register?
A: You can register now on the registration page page! Walk ups are also accepted but pre-registration really helps us plan ahead.
Q: How much does it cost to tryout?
A: 2019 tryout fee is $35.
Q: What sort of a down payment is required?
A: A $400.00 down payment is due (paid online by credit card or debit card) at the end of tryouts if the player is selected for a team. YDP players pay their entire $400.00 fee (paid online by credit card or debit card) at the end of tryouts. A complete cost and payment schedule is now available.
Q: My child is interested in the CVC YDP program, does he/she need to tryout?
A: Yes. While there are no formal tryouts for YDP, players should still register and attend the October 27th session.
Q: What ages are eligible for YDP?
A: YDP is designed for players in grades 2 to 5.
Q: What do I need to bring to tryouts?
A: Your player needs to come ready for play with shorts, t-shirt, court shoes and knee pads. You should have already completed the online registration, uploaded a copy of their birth certificate (even if you have provided a copy in previous years) and bring a completed copy of two forms: the 2019 tryout form and the Letter of Commitment. If not, there will be blank forms available.
Q: Can I watch tryouts?
A: No, tryouts are closed- just players and coaches. Parents are asked to remain in the CMS cafeteria for the duration of tryouts just in case coaches need to speak with you. CVC board members will be available to answer any questions you might have.
Q: How are players evaluated? How are teams formed?
A: There will be a minimum of two evaluators on each court for tryouts. The players will be evaluated in each of the primary skills of passing, serving and hitting. Certain players will be pulled aside for setter evaluation. There will be a significant amount of practice time dedicated to seeing the players in game like situations where evaluators will be able to get a feel for their court sense, leadership, aggressiveness, and defensive capabilities. Teams will be chosen by the on court evaluators, Coaching Director and approved by at least one member of the Board of Directors.
Q: Can I request my child play up?
A: Each player must tryout at their correct age group. The coaching staff will make thorough evaluations of each player's abilities and take into account the need at other age levels when they're making their evaluations. No player may "request" to be moved up. It will be done only at the coach's discretion after consulting with the player and parent.
Q: Is there an opportunity to practice or meet CVC staff before tryouts?
A: Absolutely! CVC is holding two free open gyms this fall at Centennial Middle School. CVC coaches will be on hand to offer tips and answer questions. See the calendar for specific dates, times and locations.
Q: My child plays other sports or participates in other activities. Is a practice schedule available?
A: Unfortunately no. Practice times are not assigned until after tryouts when we know what teams there will be. However, we do know that practices will be held on Monday and Friday nights in December, and Monday and Thursday nights thereafter, between the hours of 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m., with the younger teams typically practicing earlier, and the older teams typically practicing later.
Q: What age group is my child in for the 2020 season?
A: Use the following table to determine the proper age group classification:
18 and under Division: Players who were born on or after Sept. 1, 2001.
* Another easy way to determine the proper age classification is to use your child's age on September 1, 2019.
